Located in Georgia’s historic “Plantation Trace” region, Ten Horse Farm was once one of the largest working plantations in the area during the last half of the 19th century. Back then sizes of plantations were not measured by the number of acres they contained but rather by the number of horses (including mules) it took to farm them - thus the name "Ten Horse Farm." The community at Ten Horse Farm consisted of the owner's family, tenant farmers and sharecroppers who prospered by living and working together after the devastating close of the Civil War. The community raised and grew everything they needed. The only thing they bought was salt for seasoning and curing. Today, the historic significance of Ten Horse Farm is evident the moment you pull into the quarter mile-long drive to the authentic Planter's House, sheds and mule barns. This property has been owned, operated and maintained by the same family for over 100 years - through five generations.
